For the past four years, AKHRI—Mothers and Daughters Literacy has proudly extended its mission to Canada by investing in the next generation of changemakers. Through scholarships, student placements, youth discussion circles, and community engagement initiatives, we continue to nurture leadership, civic responsibility, and meaningful social impact.
Nimo Ahmed Scholarship for Future Leaders (Ages 16–25)Established in 2022, the Nimo Ahmed Scholarship recognizes exceptional students aged 16 to 25 who demonstrate leadership, academic excellence, and dedication to community service.
Each year, AKHRI awards this scholarship to support young Canadians pursuing higher education and to honor those who embody the values of perseverance, compassion, and empowerment that reflect Nimo Ahmed’s legacy.
Community Engagement and VolunteeringAKHRI actively engages youth across Canada through participation in fundraising galas, literacy campaigns, community outreach, and cultural celebrations. These opportunities help young leaders develop confidence, teamwork skills, and civic responsibility while contributing to AKHRI’s mission of advancing education and empowerment.
We also host youth discussion and knowledge-exchange spaces, where young leaders come together to explore global development challenges, share ideas, and learn from one another—strengthening their voice, awareness, and engagement in social issues.
AKHRI is registered with Canada Volunteers, ensuring that volunteer contributions are recognized and eligible for verified volunteer hours.
Student Placements and Experiential LearningIn partnership with Canadian universities and high schools, AKHRI offers meaningful experiential learning placements for students seeking course credit or volunteer hours. Through these placements, students gain hands-on experience in non-profit operations, communications, program development, and international development.
AKHRI also holds a formal partnership agreement with the University of Ottawa, through which students are placed with AKHRI each semester as part of their academic learning and experiential training.
Through these initiatives, AKHRI continues to build a strong foundation of youth leadership and community engagement—empowering young Canadians to learn, lead, exchange knowledge, and contribute to positive change locally and globally.
