In December 2024, six hikers: Yasmine Elmi, Abigail Ralph, Hanna Mohamoud, Amélie Giroux, Yasin Elmi, and Mohamed Elmi, embarked on an extraordinary 8-day trek to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest peak in Africa, to champion AKHRI’s mission of empowering girls and women through education.
Four women and two men stood together at the “Roof of Africa,” their powerful ascent symbolizing not only physical endurance, but an unwavering commitment to overcoming systemic barriers and breaking the generational cycle of illiteracy.
Their efforts formed the heart of our Mount Kilimanjaro Hike 2024: A Journey for Girls’ Education campaign. Thanks to the incredible generosity of our supporters, we raised $22,000—81% of our $25,000 goal. These funds are already helping provide access to education for girls in Somaliland, offering the tools and opportunities they need to build brighter, more empowered futures.
As we officially close our GoFundMe campaign, we want to express our deepest gratitude. This journey was about more than reaching a summit, it was about resilience, unity, and creating lasting change.
Though the climb is complete, our mission continues. If you’d still like to support girls’ education, we invite you to contribute directly through our website:
