Being earth’s highest mountain above sea level and one of the seven summits, Mount Everest is known to be one of the greatest challenges for hikers around the world. Those who gather at the base of this mountain all have one thing in common; they come with something to prove. Our names are Yasmine and Jasmine, and we are eager to take on the trek to Everest Base Camp in May 2022.
Each mile we hike is to support AKHRI, an organization who advocates on behalf of the women in Canada and Africa, and all the proceeds will bring textbooks and writing materials to young girls. We are determined to prove that by taking this goal one step at a time, we can gain the momentum needed to provide these young women with educational tools and an environment to thrive intellectually, and professionally.
We are officially launching this fundraiser on International Women’s Day to uplift the next generation of young girls in memory of the amazing women who have come before us. We aim to raise a total of $10,728 in light of the 5,364m of altitude we will each be summiting.
We hope you will follow along on our progress in the following weeks and consider supporting our cause. You can learn more about AKHRI and the great things they have achieved by exploring their website.
